I'm going to tell you about the Tune Into Reading assembly we had to celebrate the end of March is Reading Month. "Guy" sang songs like Abiyoyo and sang about how well you can read. People got to dance and have fun. My favorite part was when I got to dance. Then we went home. (Colston)

Last week we started a homework project called "Home Stories." We had to bring the stories in to share with the class. Ms. Stanesa made a camp fire. We all sit in a big circle. We listen to two stories a day at Morning Meeting. We have heard stories about getting lost, getting a new dog, a river adventure and much more! (Sienna)
Last week we started doing reader's theater. It is really fun. We get to act with scripts. Each group has an assigned story or folktale. One of the stories is The Shepherd and the Fairy. It is about a shepherd that falls in love with a queen and a fairy. The group thinks it has a sad ending. Everyone is enjoying reader's theater. (Anoush)
P.S. We are trying to have plays ready for video taping by next Friday. Today we were making bags telling people not to pollute. And we drew picture to remind people that we will have a better earth if we don't pollute every day, especially Earth Day (tomorrow). Go to Hollywood Market (on Campbell Rd) tomorrow to get the bags decorated by our class. (Finnegan)
We are starting a new math unit which started on the 21st of March. We are going to learn how to use our math mountains or fact families to make 8 different equations! We are going to continue with story problems and we are learning new symbols like a sign of "does not equal" (and equal sign with a line through it). We are finally getting into more complicated problems that mix up all the operations. So that's our new math unit. (Kendal)
One day this week a student presented Ninja-Squeezy Stress Balls. Here is how you make it.
Ingredients: 3/4 cup of flour (depending on how big you want it) 3 or more solid color party balloons 1 black balloon 1 pair of scissors 1 water bottle 1 funnel Here are step by step instructions on how to make a Ninja-Squeezy Stress Ball: Step 1: Put the funnel in the top of the water bottle and pour in your flour. Step 2: Take a balloon, wrap it around the top of the water bottle and shake out the flour into the balloon. Step 3: Pinch the neck of the balloon and pull it off the water bottle, let the air out of the balloon, and cut the top off. (Pinch the balloon when the flour dust flies out.) Step 4: Cut another neck of another balloon off and wrap it around the balloon filled with flour. Step 5: Repeat step 4. Step 6: Take your black balloon and cut the neck off. Step 7: Cut a U shape in the black balloon then again on the opposite side (making two holes in the balloon). Step 8: Fold the black balloon in half then repeat step 7 on the other side. This is how to make a Ninja-Squeezy Stress Ball. (Owen) Today we are going to blog about Open House and what we are doing in the classroom... we do have a surprise! We want to show our parents how we progressed from last year. (Colston/Daniel)
This is the part where Attean, a Native American leaves his village. A white boy lives in a cabin near Attean's village. The boy's name is Matt. He was left in the cabin for 10 or 11 weeks when his father said that it would take 7 weeks. The boys are friends. When Attean was going to leave, he came to Matt's cabin and gave him gifts. The gifts were snowshoes from Attean's grandfather, maple sugar from Attean's grandmother and Attean's dog from Attean. Matt gave Attean a watch. They were sad but they left. We worked hard to do it and hope you like it. (Elena) I hope you like this! We worked really hard to make it work! Everybody had a part so you will haer your child/relative's voice in either part 3 or 4. It took a lot of organizing, work and artists to finally get this straight! I hope you like it! (Julia) This week we finished our Unit 4 - Place Value unit. The last quiz and unit test are coming home today. Multi-step word problems have been the most difficult thing for students throughout this work. To practice for the test this week, partners were given a word problem to work on and then teach to the class.
