Here are the finished marble runs. The kids learned a great deal through trial and error about gravity, friction, simple machines and the different ways objects can move. This project could have gone on forever!
In April we had a music concert. It was so much fun because we got to hear all of the second graders sing. When it was the third graders turn we sang great. The fun part was when we were doing the actions to go with the song called Spring, Spring, Spring. (Raneen)
In geometry we are learning how to find the perimeter and area of quadralaterals. We use tick marks to locate the perimeter and boxes to locate the area. We also have little paper shapes to put them in boxes to find the area and perimeter. We also had questions about perimeter and area, but in some questions the area was with a certain numbers of inches or centimeters. It was really fun to find the area and perimeter! (Elena)
In class we are taking a computer test called M-Step. Some of the questions are way past third grade level but some of them are very easy. It is nearly impossible for a third grader to get all the questions right. We just work hard to do our best. (Katie)
Last week we went to the Ned Show. It was very funny because Ned and someone else were telling us all about their trip here. They also told us all the bad things that happened to Ned like aliens came after Ned saying, "My chihwawa!" It was really funny. (Damien)
We have started a new geography unit and everybody is excited. We will be making maps and other cool things. We did a pretest by making a map of the world without looking (see photos). When we are done we will draw a world map again to see what we have learned. Make sure to ask your kids about it. (Jack)
I'm going to tell you about the Tune Into Reading assembly we had to celebrate the end of March is Reading Month. "Guy" sang songs like Abiyoyo and sang about how well you can read. People got to dance and have fun. My favorite part was when I got to dance. Then we went home. (Colston)
Last week we started a homework project called "Home Stories." We had to bring the stories in to share with the class. Ms. Stanesa made a camp fire. We all sit in a big circle. We listen to two stories a day at Morning Meeting. We have heard stories about getting lost, getting a new dog, a river adventure and much more! (Sienna)
Last week we started doing reader's theater. It is really fun. We get to act with scripts. Each group has an assigned story or folktale. One of the stories is The Shepherd and the Fairy. It is about a shepherd that falls in love with a queen and a fairy. The group thinks it has a sad ending. Everyone is enjoying reader's theater. (Anoush)
P.S. We are trying to have plays ready for video taping by next Friday.
Today we were making bags telling people not to pollute. And we drew picture to remind people that we will have a better earth if we don't pollute every day, especially Earth Day (tomorrow). Go to Hollywood Market (on Campbell Rd) tomorrow to get the bags decorated by our class. (Finnegan)
