We have been doing fun activities for word work. We have been learning parts of speech like nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs. We do worksheets and fill out blanks to fix the sentence. We also do Spelling City, speed-sorting, Taboo, and word searches. We all have fun with doing all these fun activities. But, we really like Taboo because one person puts the word on their forehead and then asks questions to try and guess the word. That's really fun!
The Halloween season is here. I hope all the kids are filled with fear. At Halloween time we have a big party. It is really fun. All the kids enjoy it. We have a half day too. We start the day off with a spelling test. Then, straight to music - don't be late. Then to gym. It is very fun. Then we come back to class and have cider and donuts and go down to the parade. That's our Halloween! We have been learning multiplication strategies in math. One example is the, "Use an easier problem" strategy. This means if you know 5 x 5 = 25 and you want to know what 5 x 8 equals, you can start counting on by 5's starting at 25 because you know it took five groups of five to get there. Then count on by 5's from 25 three more times - 30, 35, 40. So 5 x 8 = 40.
